What to do and see in the Catlins
Whether you are staying at Ki Te Moana B&B for a short or long period, you will have plenty to do in the Catlins.
At the B&B we have an art gallery and offer a range of artistic workshops for all levels and ages. Further a field here is a short list of must-sees.
Owaka
Visit the charming town of Owaka is just up the road from us. Stock up on supplies, grab a coffee, visit the local museum and stop for lunch/dinner at Lumberjack cafe and restaurant.
Surat Bay Beach
The walk along the sandy white beach starts right outside our gate. You will likely see few people and lots of birds and sea lions along the way.
Nugget Point
Walk to NZ’s oldest lighthouse for sweeping views of the coastline and wildlife. You can stop at Kaka Point for refreshments on the way back.
Walking and hiking
A short drive from Ki Te Moana you are spoilt for choice for coastal and inland walks through rich forests and native bush which are classified as rain forest. Ask for tips when you arrive or see the DOC website.
Cathedral Caves
A bit further down the coast are the impressive Cathedral Caves – massive caves dug into the cliffs. Be sure to plan the trip as you can only visit at low tide and there is an entry fee.
Curio Bay
A great day trip from us is down to Curio and Porpoise bay which is great for swimming, surfing and seeing with Hector’s dolphins and see the petrified forest.
